TechnoBabble #26: SkyTran is Personal Rapid Transportation (yes, for real!)

TechnoBabbleOur long-awaited interview with SkyTran CEO Jerry Sanders is the subject of this week’s show.  Never heard of SkyTran?  Essentially, it’s “The Jetsons” made into reality – no, not actual flying cars but high-speed, non-stop personal transportation that is coming very soon a city near you.

SkyTran Vehicle

How can this be possible, you say?  Well, people generally don’t want to get out of their cars.  Existing public transit, which some would consider “efficient” is actually not efficient at all, when it comes to resources, costs and time.  If you could go from point A to point B, inexpensively, non-stop at up to 50 mph (inner-city, 100+ mph outside of city core) in your very own SkyTran vehicle that glided above the ground, why would you choose to travel any other way?

The first SkyTran systems are due to be installed in countries such as Israel and India within 2 years, where there has been great interest.  The US, not surprisingly, has been generally cold to the idea…but there is support in Mountain View, CA, near the home of SkyTran’s HQ.  Want SkyTran in your town?  Get on the SkyTran website and Facebook page and voice your support!  There will soon be a petition available to send to government and civic leaders to ask for SkyTran systems to be installed.  It’s time to quit putting in light rail and trolleys and use the technology that we have available to continue moving the human race through the 21st century and beyond.

Joe and Babe #104: Jason and deMarco Celebrate Families of Diversity

The Joe and Babe ShowThis week, other than talking about the Obama’s a-m-a-z-i-n-g inauguration speech, we chat with the amazing musical duo Jason and deMarco!  They first hit the scene in 2002 with their album “The Spirit of Christmas” and their fan base has been ever-growing since.  Today, they’re working to drop the label of being Christian and gay and just want to be known for their music.  This makes sense in today’s more accepting world, as many things have changed over the past 10+ years.

Jason and deMarco

Join us as we talk to them about their February tour, “Celebrating Families of Diversity” where they will be touring 35 cities in the west (Phoenix – 2/6) and bringing along their twin sons and Jason’s parents!  Jason and deMarco also do much more than just produce amazing music, they’re involved with SAFE: Safe, Affirming Family Environment, an organization they founded to help GLBTQ youth and young adults who have aged out of foster care, and help them transition to independent living.  Jason and deMarco tell their story of how they met, what they’re lives have been like over the past 10 years and some of the things that help keep their relationship nourished and growing each and every day.

Music featured on this episode: Bridge Over Troubled Water from their album “SAFE”.

Next week: Interview with openly lesbian UFC fighter Liz Carmouche!

Join Joe and Babe every week live at Noon PT / 3pm ET for their show with local and national interviews and their own takes on the latest news and pop-culture.  Leave us a voicemail at (888) 791-9294 or shoot us an email with what’s on your mind!

The Agenda #20: Foster and Faith

The Agenda with Rebecca Wininger and Kathy Young

Join Kathy Young, Rebecca Wininger and Bill Farmer as they discuss the coming out of Jodie Foster (who still hasn’t said the word ‘gay’) and the role that religion seems to be playing in denying the LGBT community equal civil rights.  A high court in Europe ruled that religious beliefs cannot be used as a basis for discrimination.  Could the United States be next?
We have updates on the military inclusion or exclusion of gays in handling Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and our usual Reject and Recruits of the Week.
And as always, we have great comments from our regulars within the chat room.

The team also announces the recruit and reject of the week.

Join us Wednesday evenings LIVE at 6:30pm PT / 7:30pm AZ.

Joe and Babe #103: The Facebook Effect

The Joe and Babe ShowBabe’s back on the show this week and we’re talking about how social media has changed the way that people interact with each other these days.  Is it too easy to stay home and live vicariously through Facebook?  But what if you didn’t go out and actually get “face time” with your friends?  Is social media diminishing the human experience and do we need to un-plug and “make the time” to get out more?  We’re talking about all that, our one-month countdown to going live on video, Obama’s inauguration on MLK day and more!

Next week: Interview with gay Christian musical duo (and couple) Jason and deMarco!

Join Joe and Babe every week live at Noon PT / 3pm ET for their show with local and national interviews and their own takes on the latest news and pop-culture trends.  Leave us a voicemail at (888) 791-9294 or shoot us an email with what’s on your mind!

TechnoBabble #25: CES 2013…3D is dead, but 4K is here!

TechnoBabbleCES 2013 was devoid of 3D campaigns this year, but yet 4K TVs were everywhere.  Is CES still relevant?  What were our picks?  Some notable headlines plus a review of AirParrot.

Many tech pundits this year were asking if CES was still relevant, or even needed anymore.  With Microsoft, Apple and others not even showing up…..why does anyone else need to go?  We talk about it and Joe gives his experience of attending CES in years past.

Our interesting picks from CES include Corning’s new “Willow” bendable glass (on the good side) and Panasonic’s bizarre 20″ tablet (on the bad side).

And…so 3D is dead?  Was it ever “alive”?  We think it’s been mostly a gimmick from day one.  But hey!  If you’re not interested in 3D, how about 4K?  It’s double the resolution of 1080p HD video and there’s almost no content available for it, but why don’t you get in-line to get yourself a 4K TV and be the first one on the block!  Let us know how it works out for you, if you’ve got $30k lying around for Samsung’s new 85″ 4K TV!

In recent headlines: Cisco is building a home automation box for AT&T, Susan Crawford says America is behind on broadband (duh!), Brad asks us Is time for six-legged meatballs? and a giant squid is seen in the deep sea for the first time on video.

Joe talks up his favorite new app on his Mac, AirParrot – wirelessly streams your Mac or Windows to Apple TV (without needing Mountain Lion!).  It’s extremely versatile and does more than what the built-in AirPlay Mirroring does in ML.

And, both Brad and Joe want to “Anostyle” their iPhones, but it’s just a bit too pricey!

The Agenda #19: Do We Forgive

The Agenda with Rebecca Wininger and Kathy YoungOn the show this week The Agenda team – Kathy Young and Rebecca Wininger had so much to talk about since it seemed all the news was coming up rainbows. Unfortunately, Bill Farmer had to take the night off.

Kathy and Rebecca discussed President Obama’s nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel for the position of Secretary of Defense. With his past anti-gay remarks that were made back in the ’90’s, is he the right choice for the job of continuing the job of making sure the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is implemented fully? Listen to the discussion and decide for yourself. The Log Cabin Republicans have already made up their mind and have started their campaign which is discussed as well.

Kathy also had a big announcement. She is going to participate in the Victory Fund‘s upcoming candidate training. Please help her win the contest to earn her an all expense paid training by voting here.

The team also announces the recruit and reject of the week.

Join us Wednesday evenings LIVE at 6:30pm PT / 7:30pm AZ.
