Joe and Babe #80: After 2 years, it’s straight downhill…

Joe and Babe LIVEWe celebrate 2 years of QTalk on this very special ‘party’ episode of “Joe and Babe” — and we didn’t even have to plan for the party because Clayton McKee and Marnie Reiher invade the studio half-way through the show with the bubbly and utter hilarity!!

We take a little trip down memory lane to relive some great moments on the show and we’re joined by a ‘live studio audience’, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the growth and change at ‘the little radio station that could.’  We talk about what’s in store for the future and where we see things moving, but all seriousness is lost when Clayton and Marnie show up — and then, it’s all downhill from there!  ;-)

Join Joe and Babe every week live at 1pm for their show with local and national interviews and their own personal takes on the latest news and pop-culture trends.  Leave us a voicemail at (888) 791-9294 or shoot us an email with what’s on your mind!  Note: No show for the pre-July 4th weekend on 6/30, we’ll resume on July 7th.

Clemency is the end result in the Roger Clemens case, but the jury’s still out on the likelihood that he’ll be welcomed in Cooperstown… Jerry Sandusky’s accusers rest their case, leaving the defense to paint a dusty picture of some accounts in the testimony… R.A. Dickey continues his r-a-diculous run of success with a second straight one-hitter that made him the first in the majors to win 11 games this season, while his team’s cross town rivals have won 10 in a row… Russell Westbrook and the Thunder need to put their best hooks forward to get Oklahoma City out from under in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat… Anthony Hargrove’s agent tries to refute “bountygate” charges by claiming semantics are being deployed rather than focusing on the antics of other players in the NFL… and NIKE plants seeds in the fight against homophobia by bringing together groups to plan deeds at the first-ever LGBT Sports summit…

We’re dropping sports names and playing word games as we sum up and double down on these and other bullets on the week’s interest list in another Pride Month 2012 edition of COMPETE SPORTS RADIO!

What happened to the corner of 7th Avenue and McDowell lately?  We lost My Florist Cafe nearly two years ago, and then the redevelopment began and we’ve got nothing but chains, chains and more chains!  And, what’s up with two burger joints on opposite sides of the street?  You don’t want to miss our lively discourse on these latest developments.

Joe continues his ice cream report from last show and does the full review of Sweet Republic Ice Cream.  Located in northeast Scottsdale and owned by two best friends, the purveyors of this amazing ice cream make every flavor by hand everyday.  They celebrate their 4th anniversary Wed June 13 (tomorrow) and will have prizes and free ice cream, so head up there and check it out!  Whether you’d like a traditional flavor like Madagascar Vanilla or something a bit off the wall, like Honey Blue Cheese.  Trust Joe on this one, as a lover of ice cream, this is the most amazing ice cream you’ve ever had in your life!

Joe and Babe #79: Faith, Spirituality and You

Joe and Babe LIVEIt seems that faith and spirituality, particularly religion and churches, can be under attack these days.  With all of the negative sermons from preachers and even 14-year olds with radio shows, what gives with old-fashioned ‘church’ values?  Rev. Brad Wishon of No Longer Silent joins us this week to talk about these very topics.  Where is religion headed in the next 50 years?  Do we need spirituality in our modern technical age?  What about those who were ‘beaten up’ emotionally by religion in their younger years, can they connect and be spiritual in their adult lives?

Rev. Wishon speaks of a number of exciting events on the spiritual front coming this summer that you won’t want to miss, including Q Spirit at 1VCC.  Speaking of that, he also chats with us about the growth and change at One Voice Community Center, where he is heavily involved.  All in all, a great show this week, take a listen through iTunes or right here on the site!

Join Joe and Babe every week live at 1pm for their show with local and national interviews and their own personal takes on the latest news and pop-culture trends.  Leave us a voicemail at (888) 791-9294 or shoot us an email with what’s on your mind!

Joe and Babe #78: A Chorus in the Studio!

Joe and Babe LIVEThis week, we’ve got three leaders of fabulous musical organizations in our very own community!  Scott Helms, Lucik Aprahämian and Keith Clark from Desert Overture, Arizona Women in Tune and Voices of the Desert (respectively).  We asked them to perform an impromptu concert, but they politely declined :)

These three amazing organizations, plus the Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus are about to come together for the We Are One concert on Sunday, June 24th. This is an unprecedented event where all four music organizations will unite in a truly amazing concert at Central High School in Uptown Phoenix.  We welcome them to our studio as we chat with them about their individual organizations and also the experience of coming together to make this concert a reality.  Plus, a little about this week’s news on D.O.M.A. being ruled unconstitutional by an appeals court and other goings-on around Arizona and the country.

Join Joe and Babe every week live at 1pm for their show with local and national interviews and their own personal takes on the latest news and pop-culture trends.  Leave us a voicemail at (888) 791-9294 or shoot us an email with what’s on your mind!

TechnoBabble #18: SpaceX launches a Dragon!

TechnoBabbleThis week, SpaceX made history with the first commercial spacecraft to successfully be launched into orbit, hook-up with the International Space Station and safely return to earth.  Our friend Chris Kurtz from the Mars Spaceflight Facility at ASU joins us to talk about what the impact this gives to the future of commercial spaceflight and to our exploration of space in general.

Oh yeah, plus we’ve got the latest tech headlines, not the least of which is the “dud of an IPO” that Facebook pulled recently and what we think might come out of Apple’s upcoming WWDC event.  And, a review of the totally awesome Milo Micro-Suction Smartphone Desk Stand.  No, it’s not a vacuum cleaner, you’ve gotta see this thing to believe it!
