Larry Pfeiffer joins us from the Men’s Discussion Group at One Voice Community Center. One question that’s been burning in our minds: just what do you discuss at a Men’s Discussion Group? Well, yes, there are some topics that apparently are off-limits, but it’s a very popular group on Monday nights at the Center and just keeps on getting better.
This week, we lost another gay teen to suicide. Eric James Borges from California took his life this week after struggling with his coming out process and his family’s non-acceptance of him. What’s terribly sad about this is that he had a wonderful community full of support around him, and he even made an “It Gets Better” video just about a month ago. Anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts and have no one to turn to for help, please call The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386.
One of our very own, local GLSEN co-chair and ASU professor Madelaine Adelman, was honored on Friday with the Living the Dream Award at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Awards Breakfast. It’s great to see the award go to someone who is doing great work to advance civil rights through non-violence.
