First off, welcome back to QTalk Arizona! We’ve got all kinds of new things in store for you as we launch with our new format. We’ve got all-new shows coming to you and even more variety than we’ve had before! In the coming weeks, our newer segments in tech, culture and talk will be coming out — plus even more coming this summer. And don’t forget our weekly Events Update with Seth Anderson!
But of course, on to this weekend’s show! We’re talking with one of the winners of the ‘N Touch News Magazine’s Person of the Year Award: Richard Svendsen from PEAKS Pride up in Flagstaff. We also want to congratulate the other winners: Rick Meek, Karen Bovard and the ‘Group of the Year’ — the Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. But we’re mainly focusing on Richard and his creation of the non-profit PEAKS Pride, which is an organization that he founded because he felt that there was a need to help Flagstaff residents who have been incapacitated due to an illness or surgery, the elderly or those who had gone through a local catastrophe. Formed in late 2008, PEAKS Pride has provided dedicated volunteers for service projects to the Flagstaff and Northern Arizona communities thus Promoting Equality through Acts of Kindness and Service.
Listen as I talk with Richard and go beyond just what he now does for a living — which happens to be running the fabulous Starlight Pines Bed and Breakfast, but what brought him to Flagstaff and a bit of insight into his own life. After the interview I also chat briefly about the current plight of our One Voice Community Center here in Phoenix and how you can potentially help shape the future of the center. I want your feedback and comments on the Center and its future and what kind of Center should we have here in Phoenix. E-mail the show, post something on our Facebook or call our listener line.
Next time, we’ve got Babe Caylor in the studio, co-hosting the show for the first time! We are totally excited to have Babe onboard and we’ll be talking about all the current news, discussing your comments and voicemails, plus a whole lot more!
