Working Toward Equal Rights For All

Working Toward Equal Rights For AllAnnie Loyd is a fierce advocate and one of our great community leaders.  But what is her story?  You’ve probably seen her at various events and rallies with her megaphone and wondered, “just who is this strong-voiced gal?”  She’s been working to help people from all different backgrounds in many different situations for nearly her entire life.  She’s an Artist, a Visionary and a Speaker — at least that’s what her site says — and she is definitely all of those things and more.

Listen as she tells her story of how she’s become the community leader that she is today and what brought her to Phoenix.  We chat a little bit about the election results and where we go from here, but that could be a whole other show in itself.

Seth Anderson’s “What The Hell Is Going On In Phoenix” segment — same great content, new name — has got some fabulous events and stuff to do around town as always.  Of course, we’re leading up to Thanksgiving.  What are your traditions?  What are you going to do?  Comment on the show right here or use Facebook or Twitter to get a hold of us and let us know what you’re doing!

There will be no show next week as your fabulous host and his boyfriend will be heading out of town for the long weekend, but Seth will post an events update to the website and Facebook to keep you ‘in the know’ for Thanksgiving Weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving, have fun and be safe from all of us here at QTalk Arizona!

The Magic of Coffeehouses

The Magic of CoffeehousesThere’s just something about coffeehouses, isn’t there?  It’s that wonderful oasis where you can just hang out, chat with friends, browse the Internet, read a book, whatever.  One of those wonderful coffeehouses almost closed down a few years ago, and if it wasn’t for this week’s guest, it would be gone and a distant memory.

Michele White is who saved Fair Trade Cafe, and has since turned it into a great asset for our community as well as for everyone!  With two locations in Downtown Phoenix, you are sure to find something that you like, even if you are a true coffee connoisseur.  And, since all of the products are Fair Trade ones, it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while doing it!

Listen as we chat about how she got into the business, expanding through a difficult economy and even as she answers our trivia question of the week.  Fair Trade Cafe has two locations, one at Roosevelt and Central and the other at Civic Space Park just a few blocks to the south.  Check them out online at www.azfairtrade.com and of course be sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Seth Anderson is back this week with our weekly roundup of events going on this weekend, so stay tuned through the show for that.  We’ve got one more episode coming up before Thanksgiving and it’s gonna be totally awesome.  Have a great week my listeners and tell your friends to listen to QTalk Arizona!

The Rise of Gay Sports

The Rise of Gay SportsGays and Sports didn’t used to go together.  Fast-forward to the present and seems like a nearly everyday occurrence where major sports stars are coming out of the closet.  And, and top of that, there are now entire leagues, teams and international associations of purely gays in sports.  Impressive that we have come so far, no? (You couldn’t tell by this week’s crappy election results!)

Alfonzo Chavez, from COMPETE Magazine, joins me this week to talk about this very topic.  Compete is a magazine dedicated to gay sports.  Everything about it that you probably didn’t know or didn’t want to ask.  Alright, it’s quite a bit more than that, but I’ll let him tell you the story.  You can find COMPETE at many local newsstands where you find other GLBT publications here in Arizona, along with a few other Western-region states.  Of course, the easiest way to get COMPETE is to go check out their website at www.competenetwork.com and get yourself a subscription.  Also, don’t forget to listen to their weekly podcast, all about…….yep, you guessed it: gay sports!
