Working to build our ONE Community

Working to build our ONE CommunityAngela Hughey decided that something was decidedly missing from the Valley’s GLBT world, both in business and in personal.  And thus, at the end of 2008, One Community was born!  One Community is an interactive web and events community gay, lesbian and allied individuals and businesses.  What does that all mean?  You’ll just have to listen to find out!  But the key word is ‘allies’.  One Community works to bring together both our community and our allies, instead of keeping them separate.

On this week’s show, our political contributor, Nathan Treanor, gives us a report on the latest with SB 1070.  SB 1070 has polarized the state and caused upheavals and potential lawsuits against Arizona across the nation.  Nathan also gives us insight on why SB 1070 impacts our own GLBT community and why many of us are standing together with the latino community to protest it.

GLBT Youth Are Our Future!

1n10: GLBT Youth Are Our Future! On this inaugural episode of qTalk Arizona, I’m chatting with Micheal Weakley and Babe Caylor from 1n10.  1n10 provides a safe environment to LGBTQ youth to promote positive self-acceptance through life enhancing programs here in the Valley of the Sun.

I myself was a member of these youth programs ‘back in the day’, just about 12 years ago this very month.  Without 1n10, I can’t imagine how my life would be today without all the great experiences I had and new friends that I met through the programs.  I chat with Micheal and Babe about how 1n10 has changed in its many years and we also discuss why having these youth services in place today is more important than ever.  Growing up as a teenager is hard enough, but being a queer teen is even harder.

Our technology contributor, Bradly McComb, files his first report on the recent introduction of the iPhone 4 and various other bits of tech news going on in the world this week.  Want to know more, you’ve gotta listen?

qTalk Arizona is your weekly source of news, engaging guests and the personal stories of the people who help make our community great in this diverse state of ours.  Like what you hear?  Tell your friends about it, ‘like’ us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and help spread the word!
